Here we go again with lots of improvements and new features! Grab it while it's hot ;)

  • geometry tools: sequence of lines, curved lines, ellipses
  • new brush and layer blending modes; different layer merging
  • new color dialog: palette and gamut mapping
  • improved document frame, can be resized on canvas
  • symmetric drawing mode
  • old color changer ("washed") from 0.6 is available again
  • toolbar improvements, e.g. move layer mode, pan/zoom
  • revised cursor and on-canvas color picker
  • better separation of mypaint's brush library; json brush file format
  • translations, performance improvements, bugfixes, and more

Here's an illustrated explanation of new and reworked features: Mypaint 1.1 - A guide through the new features.

Sidenote: there's no (properly) working Windows build as of yet. Please don't be too harsh with the developers - there's not a single active developer actually working on Windows, so it's pretty hard to test and debug a Windows version of mypaint :/
If you happen to be a developer working with Windows and would be glad to help improve the situation, head over to IRC or the forums

A version of mypaint 1.1 which works well on my Win7 Ultimate can be found here opensourcepack.blogspot.fr/201… courtesy of TumaGonx! You can try either the exe or the mypaint-171113_3.7z (the second one is what actually works for me)

Do you know how to toggle subwindows? I remember that the 1.0 version it was tab but that doesn't see, to be the case :S

Apparently that doesn't work the way it did in 1.0. In the latest build you need  to go fullscreen first (F11) and then you can hide the subwindows with TAB. :)

Is this a stable version? And will it run on Ubuntu 12.10? My husband just upgraded to 12.10 yesterday, so I was finally able to upgrade to MyPaint 1.0.0. I saw where 1.1.0 was available, but what I had read about it, it wasn't really stable yet. But I wasn't sure if that was for the Windows or Linux version. So I just installed the previous version.
I'd love to get this new release of it, since it was mentioned above that they've implemented the "move layer" option. And that's something I've been hoping for a while that they would add. I like being able to bring a reference picture into MyPaint sometimes, so I don't have to keep going back and forth from my picture viewer to MyPaint. For instance, I'm working on a picture right now that has a deer in it, and was using a picture of a deer as reference, and when I brought it into MyPaint, it just stuck the picture on top of my deer that I was drawing. I was like, "well that's not gonna work...". So, I just had to bring the picture up in my picture viewer, and have it set to stay on top of my other windows.
So if it's now possible to move layers around in the newest MyPaint release, it would be awesome! :)

you could also load that picture into the scratchpad (which is like an additional canvas for scribbling)

All these features sound really neat :). MyPaint really is becoming one of my favorite programs to use. Unfortunately I have to wait for the possibility of a Windows version as well. I tried Ubuntu a while back, but it couldn't read the wireless on my laptop, so I had no way of connecting to the internet :/. Thanks to the developers for all the work they put into making this program, it's really helped my art a lot :).

Or you could connect at first using a wire, then install the restricted driver and it's all good.

Hi,
Your modem certainly use a proprietary driver, if you want to retry, Linux Mint will certainly work out of the box on your system. I wrote this about the version I use : [link]

Thanks for the reply and link :). I'll admit I am still pretty new to understanding Linux. I just might retry it, seeing as I mostly use Linux based programs already XD (just the Windows versions).

If your Linux is Ubuntu based ( Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint etc... ) you should install it via the ppa ( 3 lines of code inside a terminal windows, easy and without risk ) : [link]
here I use Linux Mint KDE 14 as a system : [link]

Maybe I can answer if you give me the version of Ubuntu/Linux you used for the V.M.
Normally
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:achadwick/mypaint-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mypaint
Should work ; ( also your VM need internet connection to grab package )

the symmetry and brushes make my mouth water XD i can't wait for the windows release! ever since i learned of the existance of My Paint i just dropped everything else i used to draw in *_* it's so easy to sketch\paint in without the bothersome 'advancement' that make other programs slow and lag and crash, and it gives me an infinite canvas
good job, developers, even if 1.1.0 never comes out on windows, you've done a great job until now!

Only for do an aclaration, the portable version for windows that you mentioned in the wiki is the 1.0.0 but in the download webpage says that is the 1.1.0 version (X-MyPaint 1.1.0 [rev 5]).

WHERE IS THE WINDOWS VERSION? GGGRRRRRR.... :fork:

Different with GiMP which randomly crash in Windows, MyPaint is very stable, but I wonder why MyPaint save only at 72dpi?

It's not MyPaint's fault about the Windows version, believe me. It's the fact that developer nerds think Windows is the devil, and don't support the main program used to develop a MyPaint Windows version.

So those of us with Windows (myself included) have to wait an extra 6-7 months at times for an update, because of retarded brand loyalty/hatred.

Please learn to read. None of the developers (thank you for insulting me, btw) hates Windows. It's just that none of us actually uses it (as in "use it enough to be able to properly debug it and maintain the build for windows"). That's got nothing to do with "brand loyalty/hatred".

Again, I said NOT MYPAINT DEVELOPERS. That it's NOT MYPAINT'S FAULT.

Please don't tell me to learn to read when it's you that is having a difficult time.

I *think* I see what you're trying to say now, though it's not clear from your original posting.
But before I make any assumptions: What do you mean by "main program"? And "developer nerds" is a bit unspecific (and insulting) as well...
